Top 11 of 2011

Pictorialist photo of a black bear in the Canadian mountain wilderness.

It’s hard to believe it’s 2012 already. Where did the year go? It always amazes me when I come to the end of the year and go through my images picking out favorites to include in my favorites and to use for creating my recap video (watch for that later this week). The experiences I’ve had, places I’ve visited, and personal growth are all there for me to see. Despite having many personal struggles in 2011, there were many milestones. I am pleased with my career growth and recognition received throughout the year.

I exceeded the goals I’d set for myself of having work in exhibits in another province besides Alberta, and for having work in a US exhibition. This year I was planning to set a goal of having an international exhibition, but I did that last year! I had 2 exhibitions in the US, 2 in Vancouver, and 1 in London – not to mention numerous ones in Alberta; including the curated Pulse exhibition in Calgary. I spent more time creating original art, which was another goal for last year, and one I will continue with this year.

Also included this year were three or four hotel projects: The Westin Abu Dhabi, Westin Seattle, Marriott Renaissance Boulder, and Callaway Garden Spa (can’t remember if that was late 2010 or early 2011 though).

This year my goals include such things as:
Have work represented in a local hospitality design,
Participate in at least 1 art sale,
Send more work to agencies,
Present some original art pieces to the public,
Seek out learning opportunities for painting,
Spend more time creating,
Continue to improve and grow as an artist.

You’ll have to wait and see how I do on this years goals! Until then, I leave you with my 10 favorite images for 2011 (the bear one above is my very favorite of the year). Best wishes for a happy, healthy, prosperous 2012.

  1. I am so glad to have crossed your path on G+ so that I could explore your art further. When the image of the bear becomes available for sale, please let me know. I fell in love with it the instant I laid eyes on it. Happy new year Roberta!

    1. Thank you Cindy. I really enjoy your work as well. I’ll send you an email about the print – it’s available now, I just haven’t put it up on the site yet.

  2. Very beautiful set of images Roberta. The bear, well, it is no wonder it is your favorite, I’d pick it also! I really love the soft, painterly feel to your work. Some other standouts for me are “Light as Air” , “Campo Di Grano” and the whimsical nature of “One Two Three.” Thank you for sharing them and I wish you all the best in 2012.

  3. Very interesting and beautiful work, Roberta. I can see why galleries and collectors would like your art. You have an intriguing, unique style. I like the harbor best, the small birds and the teepees.
