B&W fine art photograph of an American White Pelican.

Victim © Roberta Murray

For Julys print of the month I’m going to do something a little different. I was looking into doing a charity print auction to raise money for wildlife rescue in the wake of the Gulf Coast oil disaster. However, I was concerned about a lack of interest, or more specifically a lack of bidding, and didn’t want to see this print of an American White Pelican sell for only $40 or $50. So this month I’m going to donate any proceeds from print sales to the buyers choice of charities from the list below:
National Audubon Society
National Wildlife Federation
International Bird Rescue Research Centre
American Bird Conservancy
Cornell Lab of Ornithology

While these Pelicans are up here in Canada breeding and enjoying summer, they will soon be headed south to an unknown future, victims of the BP oil disaster. It may be a small drop in the bucket, but together we can try to help ensure these birds return to Canada year after year.

A limited number of archival pigment prints on fine art paper are now available. Choose from 3 standard sizes, below, or email me to request a custom size.

Pictorialist photograph of cowboys and cowgirls at a cattle branding.

Untangling The Rope © Roberta Murray

June’s print of the month is Untangling The Rope. A pictorialist photograph of cowboys and cowgirls at a cattle branding in southern Alberta. Here you see the cowboy on horseback trying to untangle the rope and wind it back up after being removed from the calf. Cowgirls are standing by to give vaccinations after the branding is done. A quad in the background is the only sign of the modern times in which this scene exists.

The print of the month for May is Storm. A toned black and white photograph of a Quarter Horse standing in a corral during a winter snow storm. This was a friends horse we were pasturing for the winter. It turned out to be one of our snowiest winters in a long time. Every time it stormed the horses would get tearing around acting like young studs. They also wanted me to play and rarely left me alone long enough to photograph them.
